Arsenal bounced back from their 3-1 loss to Aston Villa at the Emirates. Giroud was the first to find the back of the net at the Craven Cottage thanks to an Aaron Ramsey assist. Podolski showed that he is still vital to the first team when he scored a brace pushing the match beyond Fulhams reach.
Rosiscky looked a little bit jaded and could no longer withstand the pressure of the game. When Wilshere came on for Rosiscky, there was no significant change in the game. Wilshere risks loosing a starting spot in the first team if Wenger decides to add a holding midfielder before September 3rd and also when Arteta returns back to first team action. Sagna played well at the centre back position and he proved this on the some ocassions when he is called up to cover for that position due to the injuries of Koscienly and Vermaelen. Fulhams game came to life when Martin Jol introduced Karagounis, Darren Bent and Kacaniklic. They proved to be good on the counter attack and were awarded by a Darren Bent goal caused by a lapse in the concentration of Arsenal defenders.
However, Arsene Wenger should not be contended with this win. He should be active in the transfer market befor the window closes. Some teams willprove to be a hard nut to crack with this thin Arsenal squad. The team lacks sufficient depth and can only challenge for fourth spot with teams like Tottenham and Liverpool. Wenger should know that sufficient squad depth does not reduce playing time for the current players. It instead increases competition for spots in the team, provides cover for injuries and maybe suspension of players. Squad depth basically brings up a winning squad as fresh legs are introduced on a regular basis due to players getting tired.
Scesny was absolutely outstanding in the game. He made a double save in the first half and showed glimpses of brilliance throughout the game. But with his inconsistency, it will be hard for Arsenal to maintain a good run in their games. Wenger needs to bring in an experienced goalie like Julio Ceasar in order to provide necessary competition and mentorship for this young lad. I believe that is what will help him reach his full potential.
